Old into New

As we look back on yet another year gone, we are reminded of the things that we have done. There are things we wish we could change, things we wish we have or hadn't done, and things we have been blessed with. These things aren't always things, big or small. They are people, places, or even actions. The best way to put it is in the words of the one and only Bing Crosby.

When I'm worried and I can't sleep
I count my blessings instead of sheep
And I fall asleep
Counting my blessings

When my bankroll is getting small
I think of when I had none at all
And I fall asleep
Counting my blessings

I think about a nursery and I picture curly heads
And one by one I count them as they slumber in their beds

If you're worried and you can't sleep
Just count your blessings instead of sheep
And you'll fall asleep
Counting your blessings"

Merry Christmas!

"And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."
– Luke 2:4-14

A Visit from St Nicholas

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

9 years along

We've been together for 9 years, married for almost 3. We drive each other crazy and make each other laugh. We have a beautiful son and it's almost hard to believe we're married but there's no one else in the world who I would spend my life with. I love him to the very depths of my soul and my whole heart.
Here's to many, many more years...

Passion fruit

8. What are 5 passions you have?

These are in no particular order...

1. Books. Let's face it, there's nothing like a really good book. A story that can just suck you in completely. One more chapter turns into 3, then 5, then you somehow end up at the end of the book. A book you just don't want to end or a sequel you have to wait for (sometimes a whole year, it's torture!).

2. Pictures. I love pictures. That's as simple as it gets. It's as good as capturing that perfect moment completely by accident. You can almost always look at a picture and remember exactly what was happening. Sometimes you laugh, sometimes you cry, sometimes all you can do is smile because there really are no words. Even if a picture is worth a thousand of them.

3. Writing. Speaking of words, I could write for days if the muse strikes. It seems like the easiest way to communicate what's going on in my head. Poetry being my better work, I wish I had the attention span for a novel. Either way, i'm happy.

4. Baking. My dream kitchen has professional grade appliances so I can bake to my hearts content. It's a form of creativity. I can't paint or sculpt but I can make a mean chocolate cake (mean to your waistline anyway). Cookies, cakes, brownies, pies, any sugar laden treat I can think of I want to create.

5. Love. Yes, I am passionate about love. It's as varied as a rainbow. It comes in so many colors, shapes, and forms. It's simply indescribable. Love for yourself, love for your partner, love for your children, love for your family...there's too many to ever list. The beautiful thing about it is you can hold so much of it that you think you're full, but then more pours in and there's magically more room.

When I can remember...

6. What is the hardest thing you have ever experienced?

Honestly, childbirth, no if, ands, or buts about it. It's kind of like getting a tattoo, only more painful but you do end up with something beautiful (or hopefully in the tattoos case).
On September 26th, Caden came a week and a half early and weighed in at 8lbs 12oz and 21in long. I can only imagine how big he would of been if I had gone full term (10/5). I definitely wanted an epidural but with the pitocin (I was barely dilating, if at all, and my water had broken almost 12 hours earlier), I went from 2-3cm straight to 10cm. So yea, no time for the epidural now! I'm actually quite proud of myself. I made almost no noise while I was pushing (minus the occasional grunting). That is, until he crowned and I dropped the f-bomb (pretty loud from what I remember). Yea, I totally tore and it was completely painful but absolutely worth it.

5 by 5 and a 7!

5. What are the 5 things that make you most happy right now?

  1. My son! How can he not? All he has to do is flash that little gummy grin and i'm wrapped around his baby finger.
  2. My cats. The fat, fuzzy, fluffy attention grabbers. Who wouldn't want to snuggle with a warm purring ball of fluff?
  3. My mommy facebook groups. It's so nice to have other mommies to talk to, even if we never meet i'm glad they're there.
  4. Watching my husband and son together. That's all there really is to it.
  5. My husband. He can be a screwball sometimes and drive me crazy, but I love him. He's my dork in shining armor.

On another note, Caden is 7 months old today!

Parental Units

3. Describe your relationship with your parents.

I'd say it's a lot easier than it used to be. We live 2,000 miles apart and we don't really talk much. Not by choice mind you, just that time gets away from me and I tend to forget things.
I like to think of my mom as one of my best friends. I look just like her and we have a lot in common. For instance, a nice cup of tea, a good book, and a purring cat in your lap. She's got an awesome sense of humor and a bit of a wild streak too.As for my dad, well, he's different. Nowadays I guess it's sort of an easy understanding. Especially since I got married and moved away. He's not an easy man to describe but he is easy to understand. He likes you, he makes fun of you; he doesn't like you, not a word. He is cool though, tattoos and a harley and hard working blue collar kind of guy.

I do miss them a lot, especially now that I have lil man. I'm hoping to get up north and visit them more, especially when he gets a little older.

Two to Threes

2. Describe 3 legitimate fears you have and explain how they became fears.

  1. Losing someone close to me. I don't think there's a real how to it, it seems like a natural human fear many people have.
  2. Not being able to have more kids. I come from a family of fertile myrtles but secondary infertility can still happen.
  3. Large crowds. I'm not really a people person and a lot of people make me nervous, especially speaking in front of large crowds.

I'm not really afraid of clowns, spiders, snakes, or any of the "normal" fears. I have no clue why. I mean spiders and snakes and creepy crawlies do creep me out but afraid of them? Nope, not really.

Just you

I haven't really written anything in a while, poetry, short story-wise or anything of the sort.
I was holding Caden, rocking him back to sleep, cause mommy-magic is the best...

Someday you'll be too big for this, for the kisses and cuddles.
You'll stay for a second then run away on little boy legs, to swing on the swings, climb up a slide, or go off on some big adventure.
For now i'll hold you close, rocking you to sleep and enjoying your sweet baby smell.
Just because you are amazing, wonderful, and brilliant.
You are my muse, you are my inspiration.

Random firsts

Big things like holidays and little things like going to the beach become a whole new ball game when there's a little person in your life. I've read and heard time and time again that these things become new to you again because it's new to them. It's a bigger brighter picture. :)

Things I can't wait for:
  • His first ball game. Whether it be baseball or football, whether he's just watching it or playing it, the little boy joy will be there because let's face it - little boys + sports = love
  • Christmas, he was only 3 months old at his first Christmas. It's going to be so much more fun when he knows what an awesome holiday this is.
  • His first wrestling match. Daddy already watches it with him so it's pretty much fated that once he's old enough he'll be rocking his favorite wrestlers gear.
  • Halloween, he was barely over a month old at his first Halloween so when he can finally go trick or treating? Oh yea! Candy here we come! Plus I love Halloween, with the decorations and the dressing up in awesome costumes. My mom used to take us kids on a big family outing with our aunts and cousins to Salem, Ma. We'd get all dressed up and walk around, have lunch, the adults would have a few nips ;)...There's no better place to be around Halloween lemme tell ya!
  • His first 4th of July, We usually watch the fireworks from a distance down here so hopefully they won't scare him. My family however have a front row seat up north, after a huge bbq with family & friends. Then we'd sit back and watch the traffic go by since there's usually a festival right down the street with live music and such. Good times.
  • His first trip to DisneyWorld! We live 8 hours away but once he's walking...look out Mickey here we come!
  • SeaWorld: turtles, petting dolphins, flamingos, and oh yea, Shamu :)
  • He first train ride. Alas, there are no trains this far south (Miami and points north) so it'll be exciting for him, especially when he knows what trains are.
I'm sure there are many many more I can't think of right now but just as he'll be excited, I will be too <3

Happy Easter!

Daddy got him a giant blue stuffed bunny. It's about the same size as he is. XD

Little man

I love the way he smiles when I nom on his belly, the way he reaches for my face with curiosity, and the way he gets so excited when he knows he's getting food.
He's got my eyebrows and daddys feet and a mix of both of our eye colors (though that can still change).
He is the most incredible little person, i'm in awe sometimes that this little man grew inside me. I sometimes miss having him in my belly but I love watching him see the world around hi
m and take it all in.
I'm still amazed at how much my heart has grown since I found out I was pregnant. The all encompassing love I have for my little man, as a mother, can hardly be contained or imagined.

I feel like you just got here...

Time

This time 6 months ago I was in labor with my little guy...
Wait a minute...6 months? really? He's already almost 6 months old? Where did the time go?
I feel like I was just pregnant, this time last year I was...
It's amazing watching him everyday grow and learn. I see his little personality start to blossom and it's wonderful to me.
I honestly never thought i'd be a mom but I have to admit, it's one of the most incredible feelings in the world...
